  • What is the Squantum School Building Project?

The Proposed new squantum school will replace the existing school with a new one at the same site.

Why is this project necessary? Why not repair/rehabilitate the existing school?

The existing building was built in 1919, with new additions in 1950 and 1971. As a result, aging HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and roofs are all in need of major repairs. The existing building is 45,000 square feet, which does not meet the estimated educational need of 82,000 square feet determined by educational programming.

How does this benefit our children?

The project will bring Up-to-date technology for 21st-century learning, create dedicated special education and academic classrooms where students can receive focused attention, build new outdoor learning and play spaces, ensure the building and site meet ADA codes, and many other benefits.

How was the building design chosen?

The school building committee has evaluated more than a dozen options that include new construction to combinations of renovation/addition schemes.

Who is the construction manager for the project?

The construction manager on the project is Lee Kennedy Company. To see more of OUR work, click here.

Where can I find updates about the construction schedule and what is planned?

This website will be updated with all of the ongoing construction updates.

What is the timeline of construction?

The anticipated dates for construction are from January 2024 to June 20

How will the school support the loss of academic space during construction?

The project will utilize modular classrooms to minimize the impact to the students over the course of the project. After a team of Quincy administrators visited the Lynch Elementary School construction site in Winchester, they were able to ensure that student and staff comfort through soundproofing and climate control are maintained.

How will disruption to the students be minimized?

The project's highest priorities are the safety of the students and staff and the minimization of the disruption to the learning environment. During construction, the project team and school administration will continuously work together to plan and monitor the educational environment and safety of the students.

Who do I contact if I have an issue or concern about the construction activities?

We will have representatives on-site every day Monday through Friday. For any construction emergencies, please contact TBD or Gavin Taylor. Their contact information can be found in the Contact the Team section.
